The grocery stores are still charging for plastic bags?

And their excuse is an environmental one?! This from a group of companies that wraps my organic bananas in extra plastic branding and a shrink-wrap seal on the tops?! Fucking nickel and dimeing customers in the name of the Earth. Fuck ya’ll! Consumers should be LIVID that they’re being suckered into giving an extra couple-million dollars a year to these scam artists.

Before the 5 cent fee went into effect, the city had already lined up plastic bag recycling contract bids.

As far as I know, the 5 cent fee did not go to the city or any sort of recycling or reclamation programs, unless specific companies did so voluntarily (and unilaterally).

When it went into effect for the city of Toronto, many stores outside of Toronto also started charging 5 cent fees for no reason.
