Q:I saw you have a Nikon D3200 and was wondering what you think of it. I am considering getting one to replace my D50 but haven't heard much from other users about it. I would appreciate hearing anything you have to say.
Hahaha. I have had it for—literally—four hours.
So far, I really like it. I came from a D40, which is relatively close to your D50.
The first shock is file size. It’s 24MP, so they are enormous. I’m probably going to shoot in lower resolutions when using JPEG. The RAW files are obnoxiously huge.
There’s a few additional configuration settings I’m playing with, like custom temperature auto white balancing.
I haven’t tested it up to 12800 ISO, but 6400 looks pretty clean. Oh, and continuous shooting seems to get up to 14 photos before it fills the buffer. Nice.
I’m just starting to play with the video. Continuous AF is nice, but it’s way too jerky for nice movies. So, I’m using manual. Which makes it okay that all my Sigma glass has to be re-chipped for movie recording or LiveView. I’m not going to bother (for now at least).
I’m sure I’ll find more to love with more time.
