Old versions of ‘Missing e’ abound
I knew this would happen.
Some people (usually possibly insecure people desperate for the Follow Checker and Unfollower features) have learned to extract their older Missing e extension files and then redistribute them.
So, the versions that have those page scraping features and API overusing features appear to be alive and well.
I saw that coming. It sucks for those people because they won’t get any updates for newer versions. It sucks more for Tumblr, who were trying to reduce the load Missing e apparently puts on their infrastructure.
It’s out of my hands now. Nothing I can do about people distributing Missing e. It is open-source, covered by the GNU General Public License.
I could have modified it to play nicer with their infrastructure, but that was not a route that Tumblr was interested in pursuing. So, I stripped the popular features, and now people are finding ways around that in order to keep and share those features that Tumblr will not like. The only avenue left to Tumblr is to somehow find a way to block older versions of Missing e (God help them if they take the more heavy-handed approach of blocking all versions). In the original call with Tumblr, I offered my expertise in blocking older versions (if they wanted to do so). I’ll prepare an invoice, just in case.

I haven’t installed your new version (because I’m lazy) but nothing has changed so far (that I’ve noticed) with the old version. I’m such a rebel. I’m all Shakespeare-like with the “I bite my thumb in your general direction, tumblr!”.
