My tandem skydiving adventure (June 30th)
Please excuse:
- the nervousness permeating all of my mannerisms
- the open source music selected by the video editing people
Photos from Saturday’s tandem skydive from 13,000 feet.
I’m afraid of heights, but I finally psyched myself up to go so I could book this as a birthday gift for Maggie.
Honestly, I was all nerves all the way up, but after the only frightening part of the exit from the plane, it was all just exhilarating.
A tip for males considering tandem skydiving: when you get into the harness, do make sure your junk is centred. The instructors will often spin the canopy around fairly fast to give you a bit of a thrill and fucking ow!
Go, Maggie!
The hangar office announces they’re going into “running mode 10.5”
Some of the patrons look at each other and ask “What do you mean think that means?”
Then, from behind us where the instructors are packing chutes, we hear, quite loudly and in a few different voices: “WHOA” and then “WE’RE USING CODES NOW?”
Glad I’ve already jumped and don’t need a boost of confidence.
After Today
I will be able to say that I’ve taken off in a plane more times than I’ve landed in one.
Birthday Skydiving
Maggie’s birthday is in a couple weeks. She’s mentioned wanting to go skydiving a few times over the last few years. I’ve nixed the idea seeing as I am scared of heights.
So, I’m taking her skydiving for her birthday.
Wait. Huh? Well, I figure it’s something she wants and something that will also mean something considering the very idea gives me chills.
I also realize that I used to be scared of rollercoasters (still am, actually), but now seek them out. So, I’ll probably enjoy it after the fear drains away (assuming it does).
Whatever, here’s my question. The place I’m looking at has solo jumps from 4,000 feet with 5 seconds of freefall or tandem with an instructor from 13,000 feet with 30-45 seconds. Which is better, do you think?
